Review: BIC America DV62si Bookshelf

BIC America DV62si Bookshelf

BIC America DV62si Bookshelf – BIC America is not a title which comes immediately to mind when considering top speaker manufacturers. Nonetheless, they make numerous pretty impressive devices which will deliver well for most customers. The BIC America DV62si is a capable two-way bookshelf speaker which can be utilised in a stereo audio system but is probably more at home within a home entertainment setup.

With sensitivity of 90dB, they are competitive with all but the very best bookshelf speaker we reviewed. Their dynamic frequency range is much more notable. With bass response which goes clear down to a profound 43Hz, they have among the best frequency response variety of any of the bookshelf loudspeakers we have found.

Exceeding the normal highest frequencies that humans can hear, 20kHz, they could create some of the ultrasonic overtones which we may discern. The super-high tones increase the spectral qualities of music which we experience that are more than simply a sum of the parts.

Great though they are, we find them difficult to get excited about. The bass notes are all there but they render a somewhat slender feel. Likewise, the mid-range and high-frequency information is presented but rather automatically and in a manner that doesn’t create much emotional reaction.

The manufacturer recommends minimal input power of 10W and maximum input of 175W. That’s a fantastic spread that’s very likely to meet most people’s needs. That is not a problem for home theaters with flat-screen TVs but could be if you are setup involves a CRT television or monitor. Speaker inputs have the five-way variety for advantage and ensuring a fantastic cable connection whether using single or dual banana plugs, pin or spade connectors or even bare wire. The articles are gold plated to avoid corrosion.

Bass and midsize frequencies are made by one 6 1/2-inch driver whose cone is made from a rather rigid poly/graphite substance that reacts rather cleanly through the board. The crossover is set at a fairly high 3,500Hz, the highest of any of the bookshelf speakers we have evaluated.

BIC America provides a seven-year components and labor guarantee, among the longest of any bookshelf speakers we have found. Which seems to say a lot for their confidence in this product. Otherwise, customer care is pretty lackluster. They may be reached by email or toll-free phone but the normal online manuals and FAQs are absent.
